• the file you create with Flash
• the file you edit with Flash
• your original file which you should not delete!
  

.swf

• the Shockwave file that results from testing your .fla movie
  
• the file that is placed on the web, on sites such as this wiki
• the file that is viewed in the Flash Player
  
• the file is compressed and cannot be edited so do not delete the original .fla file
